childhood as depicted by a 12 year old

Here are my notes on childhood that I took down when I was 12. Please enjoy.

MY NOTES ON CHILDHOOD

“Childhood is not preparation for anything. It just is, and it’s up to us to protect it.”

-        Lester Laminack

Childhood. It is said that childhood is one of the happiest periods in a person’s life. The reason of course is simple. Kids have nothing to worry to worry about, have almost no duties or problems and can hang out with friends all day long. Every child passes its days in the midst of the affection of parents, grandparents and relatives. Cares and anxieties do not trouble the mind of a child.

It’s strange how your childhood sort of feels like forever. Then suddenly you’re older and realize it’s almost over and you’re almost an adult. You want to move on and start the next chapter of your life but you know that means saying goodbye to the one you loved.

You see, when you’re about my age, around 12, 13 years old that realization hits you. The realization that you’re almost “grown up” and the shock of it hits your senses. That is why I want to tell you, it’s not over for all of us yet and we should start making the best of it. It is that golden period of life which flies away without giving any notice and never comes back. And that is why we should cherish it and not waste our time thinking about the future, instead we should just enjoy the present.
